This course will focus on the utilization of aquatic therapy in the management and treatment of patients with joint pathology who may have had or in the future will warrant arthroplasty of the hip, knee or ankle. Included in discussion will be a brief overview of current surgical interventions for joint arthroplasty and the role these interventions play in recovery and rehabilitation. Both pre and post operative aquatic programming will be discussed, as well as the role that aquatic exercise may play as a component of this populations lifetime fitness program. Discussion will include examples of how aquatic therapy can be utilized to maximize function while managing the potentially harmful effects of impact and loading.
